We’re doing things a little differently for Virtual Choir 5. This section of the site includes all you need to learn the music and submit your video. You don’t need to read sheet music for this project; simply watch the video series and Eric will share everything you need.
Level 1 is created for singers of ALL ability, from the experienced to those who haven’t sung for years or who rarely sing, even those who have never sung before.
You will need to watch this video once in order to be able to record for Level 1. Eric tells you about the music that you will record and plays the notes that you are going to sing. There is just one video for all voices. You can rewatch this video at any point.
This is where you can rehearse and record your video for VC5. You will record all four cells of Deep Field in one video. Pushing RECORD will start Eric’s conductor video and automatically start recording from your camera and microphone. Once you’ve finished the recording, you can review your performance. If you like your take, you can save the video. If you’d like to re-record (and just use that run through as a rehearsal), push RESET. You can do this at any point during the recording process.
You may SAVE up to two Level 1 videos. You can SUBMIT one Level 1 video.
Level 2 is an optional stage for the more confident singers inviting you to experiment, adding another texture to the music by singing aleatorically.
There are different parts for sopranos, altos, tenors and basses for Level 2. You will need to select which part you would like to perform. Eric will then teach you your notes. You will need to watch this video once in order to be able to record. You can come back and rewatch this video at any point.
There is no conductor video for Level 2 as you sing the notes at your own speed or tempo. Just push RECORD whenever you’d like to start recording and STOP when you’re finished. Eric recommends recording for 20-45 seconds. Once again, you can REVIEW your performance before you save it.
You may SAVE up to eight videos for Level 2 – two per voice part. You can SUBMIT one video per voice part for Level 2. This means the total number of SUBMITTED videos possible for Level 1 and 2 is five. Please note, in order to submit a Level 2 performance, you must have submitted a Level 1 video first.
Review & Submit
Don’t forget to submit your video(s) before 11:59pm PT on July 1, 2018. Only submitted videos will be included.
Every submission will be included so please give it a try. Good luck!
We have created a bespoke recording tool for Virtual Choir 5 that includes everything you need to record and submit a video. This tool is the only way to submit a video to VC5.
In our goal to make VC5 as accessible as possible, we have aimed to provide a platform to those who don’t have access to a laptop or desktop computer. We’re excited to tell you, therefore, that for the first time you are able to learn the music, record and submit your video on mobile devices. We know the learning and recording tools work on most Android and iOS platforms but due to the number of different operating systems and devices that exist, it’s not possible to provide a comprehensive How To Guide for every platform. If you need help, please visit our FAQs.
In order to record, you will need:
- A device with a camera and a microphone.
- A reliable internet connection that is good enough for recording and uploading video.
- Headphones. Preferably ear buds that can be hidden from the camera.
Some web browsers may require you to allow access to your webcam and microphone before recording a video. If you are having any issues with your recording equipment, press the small cog in the recording window to ensure the correct camera and microphone are selected. If you are having any issues, please reach out to our Support Team.
When you Record
Some things to keep in mind to produce the best results:
- Find a quiet place to record. Turn off fans and other appliances that hum (eg. refrigerators)
- Be the only person in your video.
- Make sure your face is brightly lit.
- Use a plain, dark background, center yourself in the frame.
- Wear dark clothing, with no logos or words.
- Wear earbuds or headphones; hide the cord.
- Prepare your device: close all applications other than your web browser, and stop all background tasks. Reboot if necessary.
- Hold still, don’t fidget with the music.
- Keep looking at the camera for 5-6 seconds after you have sung your last note.

This sheet music is optional; you are able to learn the parts by ear as you watch Eric’s tutorial videos.
